Expert Al-Majdadi: Bees Are Essential for Pollinating 75% of the World’s Food Crops

Protecting Bee Populations Is an Urgent Necessity to Maintain Environmental Balance and Safeguard Global Food Security

Beekeeping and honey production expert, and Director of “Mujezat Al Shifa,” Mohammed Qasim Al-Majdadi, emphasized the vital role of bees in food production and maintaining ecological balance, noting that bees are a key element in pollinating plants and improving the quality of agricultural crops.

Speaking on the occasion of World Bee Day, Al-Majdadi stated that the decline in bee populations over recent years poses a real threat to global food security. He stressed that the improper use of pesticides and climate change are among the main factors threatening bees and negatively affecting honey production.

He added that supporting beekeepers and raising awareness about the importance of environmental protection and planting flowering plants are urgent necessities, because protecting bees means protecting the future of agriculture and humanity.

Al-Majdadi explained that bees are among the most important creatures on Earth, contributing to the pollination of nearly 75% of the world’s food crops, including fruits, vegetables, and nuts. He warned that the disappearance of bees would have a significant impact on food chains, agricultural production, and biodiversity.

He pointed out that bees face numerous threats, most notably climate change, the use of pesticides, the loss of natural habitats, pollution, and diseases. These factors have led to a decline in bee populations in many countries around the world, making immediate protective measures essential.

Al-Majdadi affirmed that individuals and institutions can contribute to protecting bees by planting flowers and natural plants, reducing the use of harmful chemicals, and supporting farmers who adopt environmentally friendly agricultural practices. He also highlighted the important role of schools and institutions in spreading environmental awareness.

He concluded by emphasizing that World Bee Day is not merely an environmental occasion, but a global call to preserve a fundamental creature essential for sustaining life on Earth. He stressed that protecting bees means protecting nature and humanity, while ensuring a more sustainable food future for generations to come.
